We've been having oven issues. The oven temperature slowly increases over time. They've fixed it twice, but this last time the manager agreed with me that we needed to either replace the thermometer or get a new oven. And guess what? I'm getting a new oven, and just in time for the holiday baking too. Which means that I'll have to make at least one test batch of cookies - so who wants to come over and help me eat them?
Last final is today - hurrah! I should be studying, but I'm avoiding it. It's all about cancer and nutrition. If this class has done nothing else, it's made me start eating better, which makes it worth it if I had learnt nothing else. A couple quick points to share with everyone regarding what we've learned:
- Don't use supplements of any type to prevent cancer - you're probably doing more damage than good.
- If you're a smoker DO NOT use beta-carotene supplements to reduce cancer risk! Several very large studies in different countries have shown that it INCREASES your cancer risk by 18%.
- Better yet, don't smoke at all.
- Nutrition contributes to 30-40% of cancers, so eat better.
